This morning (6/1/2017) we visited again with Carmen’s
granddaughter, Breanna and great granddaughter, Caroline at their new house in
Clarksville, TN. Unfortunately, her
husband, Devin had to work. What a
wonderful visit. Caroline is a few weeks
short of 1-year old. What a cutie. They have a very nice house in rural
Clarksville, yet it is fairly close to where they might want to go.
After Caroline’s nap, we went to the Clarksville Liberty
Park. There is a café there and we had
lunch while we waited for Devin to get out of work. Carmen is looking at the menu as we sit overlooking the marina. A very good lunch! When Devin caught up with us we walked the walking
trail around the marina and river before heading back to the house.
Shortly afterwards we said our good-byes and began our drive
on US-79 heading to Bowling Green, Kentucky.
On the way we passed quite a few corn fields and wheat fields. It really surprised us at the number of
fields we saw along our drive.
Several of the fields had barns sitting on the side or like
this one in the middle of the field.
One of the corn fields gives way on the horizon to a wheat
field. You can also see one of the many
silos that dot the landscape.
Another of the many barns we saw along the way.
Right between a corn field and a wheat field was this
beautiful old barn. Too bad I was
driving fast when we came around a bend or Carmen would have gotten a better
picture. The other thing was there is only
a 6-inch shoulder for the roads before there is a 4-foot ditch. Although I would try, I simply could not stop
in the middle of a 55-mph road.
We left US-79 and continued on KY-68 and we continue to
pass many barns; some nicer than others and this dual barn in a field.
The
interesting thing, while on KY-68 we passed so many “garage sales” that this
must be the garage sales capital of the world.
At one of the garage sales we passed by, there was a horse & buggy
parked near the driveway. We didn’t get
a picture because it caught us by surprise.
Further down the road we saw a sign indicating a historic Shaker
Village, and then we understood the horse and buggy.
Before we reached our final hotel for the evening, we drive
by yet another old barn. As you can see
we cannot get enough old barns.
We are going to the Corvette Assembly Plant tomorrow and
have an 8:15 am start time. We have to be
there at least 20 minutes before to sign all of the paperwork. I want to visit not work here! Oh well, that is it for today since we are calling it an early night; don't want to be late. See you
tomorrow.
